Japanese Traditional Music Workshops: International Schools

This first-year project is part of an extended mission to bring Japanese traditional music (shakuhachi and 13-string koto) to various international schools and communities throughout Japan. For 2018, Christopher Blasdel (shakuhachi) and Dr. Joseph Amato (13-string koto) spent 8 days at Tohoku International School (TIS) in Sendai presenting:
a) One Saturday adult workshop for the Sendai area international community (8 participants)
b) A week-long student workshop for the entire TIS school body (K—12). (124 participants)
c) A concert and presentation by all TIS students performing several music compositions as well as discussion on their one-week experience. The concert ended with a performance by Blasdel and Amato.

This project was supported and funded through a grant received by the Toshiba International Foundation
